Plant Medicine x Tea Ritual Workshop
Description
Africana archivist Tonika Berkley and public humanities fellow Nicoletta Daríta de la Brown will lead a workshop about using plants to make medicinal cider and tisanes for the Winston Tabb Special Collections Research Center. Registration is limited to 16.
Fire cider for winter wellness
Learn how to make "fire cider" or "master tonic"—a spicy, deliciously sweet vinegar tonic —to boost your immune system for cold and flu season with Tonika Berkley. Attendees will use herbs, such as rosemary, turmeric, and cinnamon, with root vegetables and fruits, like horseradish, ginger, and lemon. Let's prepare to stay well during the cold winter season with some "heat" for the body. All herbs, vegetables, and materials will be provided for the workshop.
Rituals of tea
This is an interactive workshop blended with sweet nostalgia reminiscent of a tea ceremony. Infuse memories of family tradition while brewing delicious tisane blends. Integrate inspiring ingredients and create a playful personal ritual. Nicoletta loves sharing the practices she learned from her abuelita (grandmother) like "tonic"—a fresh cilantro (coriander tea) cold-steeped overnight. The session will include a group ceremony to lock in the magic co-created. Nourish your imagination and boost your wellbeing with Nicoletta Daríta de la Brown.
