Description

The Johns Hopkins University Open Source Programs Office is delighted to sponsor a free, two-part open-science skills training workshop this September. The Open-Science Skills Training workshop, with content developed at NASA, covers a range of essential skills pertinent to open-science practices, including data management, open publishing, and research workflow optimization.

This online event is geared primarily toward research students and early career professionals but offers important takeaways and learning opportunities for participants at all career levels and in all disciplines.

Note that this is a two-part workshop taking place on Sept. 17 and 24. Attendance at both sessions is mandatory to receive credit for the NASA Open Science digital badge, which you can proudly display on professional platforms such as LinkedIn and ORCiD. This badge symbolizes a commitment to open science and proficiency in key skills that are increasingly recognized and valued in the research community.

Workshop participants will learn how to:

  • Use tools like Git/GitHub, Python, Matplotlib, Jupyter Notebooks, and Zenodo
  • Make your research accessible, transparent, and reproducible
  • Understand concepts such as FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable) and CARE (collective benefit, authority to control, responsibility, and ethics)
  • Draft open science and data management plans
