'The Birth of Jazz in Baltimore' at Artscape
Description
The Billie Holiday Center for Liberation Arts is presenting its The Birth of Jazz in Baltimore exhibit to audiences at Artscape.
The exhibit consists of 18 richly designed banners that feature archival documents from the recently acquired Linda Kuehl/Billie Holiday collection at the Johns Hopkins Sheridan Library. Other parts of the exhibit consist of historical maps and rare images as well as photographs from the library's John Mayden collection.
All of these fragile archives were brought into preservation through the efforts of the center's team, including curator Gabrielle Dean, fellow Raynetta Wiggins-Jackson, and Bloomberg Distinguished Professor Lawrence Jackson. The banners are on display and under the care of newly appointed assistant center director Xavier Walker at Artscape from Aug. 2 to Aug. 4.
