Description

This webinar from the Johns Hopkins Institute for Clinical & Translational Research's Data Manager's Interest Group will feature a panel discussion to reflect on the first year of the National Institutes of Health's (NIH) updated data sharing policy. This policy required Data Management and Sharing Plans for most proposals indicating how and where research data can be made accessible in an online data repository.

Speakers:

  • David Fearon, senior data management consultant at Johns Hopkins Data Services, reviews the library's support for data sharing plans.
  • Tom Burns, assistant dean for research affairs and executive director for research administration for the School of Medicine's Office of Research Administration, discusses office's experiences with the policy changes and impacts on investigators.
  • Valerie Smothers, data trust coordinator at the School of Medicine, presents Johns Hopkins Medicine Data Trust's and the university's guidance and expectations related to sharing patient data as well as how investigators can respect patient privacy while complying with NIH policy.
  • Andreia Faria, associate professor of radiology and radiological science at the School of Medicine, discusses her 2023 DataWorks! award-winning data sharing plan, and obstacles in actually sharing data, including refining Johns Hopkins' data sharing policies and the repository's challenges handling "big data."
