East Asian Studies Speaker Series: Shih-Diing Liu

Description
Shih-Diing Liu, a professor at the University of Macau (Macau SAR), will give a book talk titled "Affective Spaces as Method: The Cultural Politics of Emotion in China" for the Program in East Asian Studies. This event is co-sponsored by the Program in International Studies and the Department of Anthropology.
East Asia is saturated with complex emotions. Although emotions play an essential role in the sociopolitical formations of the region, their implications are poorly understood. Affective Spaces: The Cultural Politics of Emotion in China (forthcoming, Edinburgh University Press) explains why and how emotions create new ways of understanding contemporary cultural politics. It serves as a starting point for rethinking the dynamics and struggles in East Asia and beyond.
