Math Accessibility, Part 1: Math As a Language
Description
Mathematics is foundational to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields, but the focus of accessibility efforts is typically on the written word, overlooking the information conveyed in equations. In this first session on math accessibility, presenters will share background information on why disability inclusion and equitable access to math content matters for disabled STEM students and professionals. They will then highlight "math as a language," including the visual, auditory, and symbolic content, and what course designers and content creators should consider when making math content accessible.
This workshop is through the Faculty Forward Academy, which promotes excellence in teaching and learning, innovative instruction, and evidence-based development opportunities.
