East Asian Studies Speaker Series: Fan Yang

Description
Fan Yang, an associate professor in the Department of Media and Communication Studies at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), will give a talk about her book Disorienting Politics: Chimerican Media and Transpacific Entanglements as part of the East Asian Studies Speaker Series.
Disorienting Politics mines 21st-century media artifacts to make visible the economic, cultural, political, and ecological entanglements of China and the United States. These "Chimerican media," originating in America but circulating beyond national boundaries, co-create the figure of rising China and demonstrate the ways in which race is embedded in geopolitics even when the subject of discussion is not the people but the (Chinese) state.
This event is co-sponsored by the Department of History.
