In the Stacks: Musica Spira

Description
After three years, music returns to the George Peabody Library. For the first performance, early-music ensemble Musica Spira will explore the fascinating variety of venues that 17th-century Italian women composed in, including courts, convents, and private academies. Although women have been composing and performing music since antiquity, their contributions have often been overshadowed—17th-century Italy, in particular, was home to significantly more women composers than any other region in Western Europe. This performance will feature music by Francesca Caccini, Barbara Strozzi, Isabella Leonarda, and Lucrezia Vizzana.
Rare works by women authors from the Sheridan Libraries Special Collections will be on display for one night only. Come enjoy an evening of music in one of the most beautiful libraries in the world.
