Health Policy Forum with Donna Shalala

Johns Hopkins Medicine is honored to welcome Donna E. Shalala, Trustee Professor of Political Science and Health Policy at the University of Miami, for a virtual fireside chat as part of the Johns Hopkins Health Policy Forum.

A recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor, Shalala served as U.S. representative for Florida's 27th Congressional District, president of the University of Miami and Hunter College, chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, president and CEO of the Clinton Foundation, and as secretary of Health and Human Services for eight years during the Clinton administration. She is the nation's longest-serving HHS secretary.

Kevin W. Sowers, president of the Johns Hopkins Health System and executive vice president of Johns Hopkins Medicine, will host the conversation.

The discussion will cover topics such as: new and innovative trends shaping the health care industry; lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic; the polarization and politicization of health care; reflections on Shalala's career; and advice for students and emerging leaders in health care.

The Health Policy Forum series is jointly hosted by the Bloomberg School of Public Health, the School of Nursing, the Carey Business School, and Johns Hopkins Medicine. The forum provides an opportunity for Johns Hopkins faculty, students, and operational experts to engage with policy makers and explore contemporary health policy approaches.
