Austin Kilaru from the University of Pennsylvania and Katherine J. Sapra and Chris Crider from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation will discuss "Health Care Leaders' Perspectives on the Maryland All-Payer Model" as part of the Hopkins Business of Health Initiative Fireside Chat Series.

Austin Kilaru, MD, MSHP, Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine, Senior Fellow, Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics, Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania

Austin Kilaru, MD MSHP is an emergency physician and health services researcher. His work investigates approaches to improving the value of emergency department and hospital care, with specific focus on care transitions and tools to address social determinants of health. His research has been featured in the New England Journal of Medicine, Health Affairs, and JAMA.

Katherine J. Sapra, PhD, MPH, Director, Division of All-Payer Models, State Innovations Group, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, CMS

Kate Sapra currently serves as director of the division of all-payer models in the state and population health group at the CMS Innovation Center. She joined CMMI in 2016 as a presidential management fellow and subsequently held positions as the Maryland Total cost of care model lead and deputy director for the division of all-payer models. Prior to joining CMMI, Sapra spent eight years conducting public health and clinical research among vulnerable populations, including persons with substance-use disorder and low-income women. She has published almost 40 peer-reviewed papers. Sapra received her PhD and MPH in epidemiology from the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University, and completed doctoral and postdoctoral work in epidemiology at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, National Institutes of Health.

Chris Crider, Deputy Director, Division of All-Payer Models, State Innovation Group, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation

Chris Crider is the deputy director of the division of all-payer models at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (Innovation Center), which houses the Maryland total cost of care model, Pennsylvania rural health model, Vermont all-payer ACO model, and the community health access and rural transformation (CHART) model. Crider has been with the Innovation Center since 2015, and in that time has worked across a number of Medicare, Medicaid, and multi-payer models related to state innovation, value-based payment, population health, social determinants of health, and the prevention and treatment of opioid-use disorder. Prior to joining the Innovation Center, Crider served as a research scientist at George Washington University, supporting community efforts to test new models of care delivery, with a specific focus on reducing disparities in care. Crider received a BA from George Washington University and an MPH from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
