Michael J. Ard is the program director and senior lecturer for the Master of Science in Intelligence Analysis program. A former CIA analyst and manager, Ard specialized in Latin American and Middle Eastern issues. Part of his career included three years at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, where he served as deputy national intelligence officer for the Western hemisphere.
Stephen M. Grenier is the program director of the Global Security Studies program at Johns Hopkins University. He previously served as the associate director for cadet leadership programs at The Citadel and as the director for Canadian affairs in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy. As a career active-duty U.S. Army Special Forces officer, he worked in 32 countries and completed 11 combat tours.
Craig A. Hart is a lecturer at Johns Hopkins University's Energy Policy & Climate program in Washington, D.C. Hart serves as executive director of the Pace Energy and Climate Center at Pace University's Haub School of Law and is a nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center. In the utility reform area, Hart advised Uzbekistan in its ongoing energy market and utility reform initiative leading to the restructuring of the state energy company Uzbekneftegaz and advised the country of Georgia's Ministry of Energy in reforming its state electricity transmission company.
Elizabeth B. Hessami is a licensed attorney and faculty lecturer of international environmental policy and environmental and natural resources security for Johns Hopkins University. She has served as a visiting attorney for the Environmental Law Institute (remote) for nearly a decade researching post-conflict natural resources management specializing in armed conflict and the environment. She is licensed to practice law by the Washington, D.C., and U.S. Supreme Court Bars. Hessami has served as a consultant on Afghanistan, natural resources, armed conflict, and peacebuilding. She was appointed in 2019 to serve on the International Union for Conservation of Nature World Commission on Environmental Law and is active in the Specialty Group on Peace, Security, and Conflict.
Donald N. Jensen is director of Russia and Europe at the United States Institute of Peace and an adjunct professor at the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, Johns Hopkins University. A former U.S. diplomat, Jensen provided technical support for the START, INF, and SDI negotiations and was a member of the first ten-man U.S. inspection team to inspect Soviet missiles under the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty in 1988. From 1996 to 2008, he was associate director of broadcasting and head of the research division at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty where he helped lead that organization's expansion into new broadcast regions after the end of the Cold War and the adaptation of multimedia technology to deal with the broadcasting challenges of the 21st century. In 2016, he was a foreign policy advisor to the presidential campaign of Gov. John Kasich. Also in 2016, he was a visiting scholar at the NATO Defense College in Rome.
Ronald "Ron" Marks III is a 38-year veteran of the U.S. national security community. A former CIA official, Marks was a clandestine service officer, special assistant to the ADCI for Military Affairs, and a senate liaison for five detective chief inspectors. He went on to serve on Capitol Hill as Intelligence Council to Sen. Majority Leaders Robert Dole and Trent Lott. Appointed a 2021 visiting professor of cyber and intelligence at George Mason University, Schar School of Policy and Government, Marks designed a unique course devoted to the crucial intersection of national security policy and advancing technology.
