Speaker Bio
Trina Spear is the co-CEO and co-founder of FIGS, the digitally native, DTC health care apparel and lifestyle brand creating technically advanced products for the modern health care professional. FIGS is on a mission to celebrate, empower, and serve health care professionals, our awesome humans. FIGS has revolutionized the health care apparel industry. Under Spear's leadership, FIGS has created premium products for health care professionals, introduced a convenient and seamless DTC online platform, and built a community around a profession. Spear's accolades include being named in Goldman Sachs' 100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs (2018 and 2019), Endeavor Entrepreneur (Endeavor, 2015), and Entrepreneur of the Year (Ernst & Young, Los Angeles Region, 2018). Her article, "Transforming the Health Care Experience: Doctors, Nurses, Patients, and Beyond," was published in the Journal of the American College of Radiology in 2017. Additionally, under Spear's leadership, FIGS was ranked Number 21 on Inc. Magazine's Inc. 5,000 ranking of the nation's fastest-growing companies in 2018. Prior to launching FIGS, Spear was an associate with the Blackstone Group – a leading global alternative investment business – in the firm's hedge fund group. She also spent four years with Citigroup's investment banking and private equity divisions. Spear is a member of the 2018 Class of Henry Crown Fellows at the Aspen Institute. Spear received her BA in economics from Tufts University, graduating magna cum laude, and she completed her MBA at Harvard Business School. About the Series
The goal of Leading Change: Perspectives from Outside of Medicine "Conversation Series 2021" is to help attendees think about ways to improve "the patient experience" at Johns Hopkins by learning from experts in other fields and disciplines. The lectures are open to all members of the Johns Hopkins community. In order to allow for an open exchange between the speaker and the audience we will not record or broadcast the lecture.
