M. Lisa Manning, director of the BioInspired Institute at Syracuse University, will give a talk titled "Avalanches in Active Matter and Sheared Granular Systems" as part of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Fall Seminar Series.

M. Lisa Manning's research interests:

  • Defects and deformation in disordered solids and glasses
  • Surface tension and emergent mechanical properties in developing embryonic tissues
  • Mitotic waves and pattern formation in biological tissues
  • Constitutive models for friction and shear banding
