Description

Joanne M. Braxton, professor of the humanities emerita at the College of William & Mary, will give the 27th Annual Shallenberger Lecture entitled "On the Outrage of Black Mothers: Healing the Past in the Present."

Braxton is also president of the Braxton Institute for Sustainability, Resiliency, and Joy; a fellow at the Hastings Center; and an adjunct professor of family and community medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School. She holds a Master of Divinity, in addition to a doctorate degree, and has ministerial standing in the Southern Conference for the United Church of Christ.
