Description

The Heritage365 initiative observes the cultural heritage and history beyond the month and recognizes such heritage month from a year-long format. The Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Black Faculty Staff Association are excited to present musician Jonathan Blanchard and his presentation: "From Spirituals to Hip Hop: A Musical Journey Celebrating African American Music from its Inception."

The Negro spiritual serves as the inspiration and the springboard for exploring other genres like gospel, jazz, R&B, blues, funk and hip-hop. Jonathan Blanchard received his Bachelor of Science in commercial music and Master of Science in music education from Tennessee State University. He develops workshops in colleges and universities to portray the art and history of "Negro spiritual."
