Description

The German Program (Department of Modern Languages and Literatures) presents Berlin Oranienplatz, a play by Hakan Savaş Mican performed by the Maxim Gorki Theater, Berlin, (2020) under the direction of Hakan Savaş Mican. This is the first event of the Migration Theater Series showcasing the importance of theater in German cultural and political life with a focus on the role of migration and the situation of migrants in contemporary German society.

Berlin Oranienplatz tells the story of Can, a young man of working-class Turkish parents, as he prepares to say goodbye to Berlin and return to Instanbul. Organized by Katrin Pahl, associate professor of German, and Deborah McGee Mifflin, German language program director, with support from the Federal Republic of Germany (Building Tomorrow) and the Max Kade Center for Modern German Thought. In German with English surtitles.
