Description

Join the Friends of the Johns Hopkins University Libraries for a book talk and signing with award-winning historian and professor emeritus Mary P. Ryan. Dr. Ryan will discuss her newly released book, Taking the Land to Make the City: A Bicoastal History, and use historical maps to demonstrate the critical role that Baltimore played in the advancement of both democracy and capitalism across America during the 19th century. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing following the talk.

This program is presented by the Sheridan Libraries in conjunction with the special exhibition Maryland, from the Willard Hackerman Map Collection, on view at the George Peabody Library through March 16.
