Soft stillness and the night: Shakespeare and the Romantics
Description
From Shakespeare's time to our own, his works have inspired countless musical adaptations that span genres and centuries. Historian, musician, and professor of musicology at the Peabody Conservatory Richard Giarusso leads a series of talks considering a select number of musical works inspired by Shakespeare, including Berlioz's Roméo et Juliette, Verdi's Falstaff, Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Thomas Adès's The Tempest, among others.
A follow-up event will be held Tuesday, April 24, titled "In sweet music is such art: Shakespeare and Opera."
