Second Commission on Undergraduate Education

Description

JHU's Second Commission on Undergraduate Education (CUE2) will hold a presentation and town hall meeting featuring guest speaker Jonathan Cole of Columbia University. Cole will discuss current trends in undergraduate education, and then participants will be invited to talk about issues related to the commission's work.

Cole is the John Mitchell Mason professor of the university at Columbia and served for 14 years as provost and dean of faculties. He is renowned for his scholarship on the development of the sociology of science as a research specialty and recently has focused on issues in higher education. His books include The Great American University: Its Rise to Preeminence, Its Indispensable National Role, Why It Must Be Protected (2010) and Toward a More Perfect University (2016).

Cole's presentation is part of a series of events for the university community to engage with the commission's efforts to develop a model for undergraduate education in the next decade.
