The Johns Hopkins Diversity Leadership Council (DLC), established in 1997, is a group that advises the president and senior leadership on diversity and inclusion and cross-cultural issues and opportunities across the enterprise in the following ways:
- Recommends and promotes policies, programs, and discover or originate other initiatives that will attract and retain a diverse mix of faculty, staff, and students;
- Examines formal and informal structures, processes, and practices that inhibit Johns Hopkins from being more inclusive and recommends changes that foster greater inclusion;
- Promotes diversity, inclusion, and belonging awareness education and dialogue across Johns Hopkins;
- Organizes signature programs, such as the Annual Diversity Leadership Conference, the Diversity Innovation Grant Program, and the Annual Diversity Recognition Awards;
- Convenes to discuss current DEI-related issues locally, nationally, and globally that impact Johns Hopkins;
- Encourages community involvement in Baltimore, Washington, and Howard County through intentional programming and engagement with institutional leaders at various divisions of Johns Hopkins institutions.
The membership nomination window is open, and we are seeking faculty, staff, and students to serve as new members on the DLC. Members are expected to:
- Serve for one-year (students) or three-year (faculty and staff) terms;
- Attend 75% of quarterly two-hour DLC meetings and DLC events;
Join one workgroup and one subcommittee and be an active participant.
Workgroups are program/initiative specific, and members meet based on the needs of the program; subcommittees typically meet monthly to move forward their goals.
Joining the DLC is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in advancing diversity and inclusion at Hopkins. If you'd like to learn more about the DLC, visit its website here.
The nomination period closes tomorrow, Wednesday, June 26.
