Johns Hopkins University moved up a spot to No. 11 in the sixth annual U.S. News & World Report Best Global University rankings, released today. The university also ranked among the top 10 universities in the world in 10 subject areas and among the top 20 in 12 subject areas.
This is the sixth time U.S. News has published its Best Global Universities rankings, which emphasize academic research and international reputation. The list is intended to help students find opportunities for higher education beyond their own countries and to compare universities' research missions. For the list, universities are assigned a numerical score on 13 performance indicators, such as a school's global and regional research reputation, number of publications, and its international collaborations.
This year's rankings include 1,500 universities from 81 countries. Among U.S. schools, Johns Hopkins ranked ninth.
The 12 Johns Hopkins programs ranked among the top 20 in the world by U.S. News are:
- Clinical Medicine: No. 2
- Oncology: No. 2
- Social Sciences and Public Health: No. 2
- Surgery: No. 2
- Immunology: No. 4
- Cardiac and Cardiovascular Systems: No. 6 (tied)
- Neuroscience and Behavior: No. 6
- Molecular Biology and Genetics: No. 7
- Pharmacology and Toxicology: No. 8
- Biology and Biochemistry: No. 9
- Microbiology: No. 14
- Space Science: No. 20
These rankings are different from the U.S. News Best College rankings, which were released in September.
