Tony and Jonna Mendez

If you've seen Argo, then you know all about Tony Mendez, who orchestrated the great escape of six hostages from Iran in 1979, as portrayed by Ben Affleck in the Academy Award-winning film. Mendez and his wife, Jonna, are retired CIA intelligence officers who now live in rural Washington County, Maryland. Today they are artists (he's a painter, she's a photographer) and authors; Tony's books include The Master of Disguise: My Secret Life in the CIA, and Spy Dust, in which the couple chronicled their intelligence exploits in Moscow as the Cold War waned and their romance blossomed. Both books are recommended reading for new recruits in the U.S. intelligence community. The event is part of the annual MSE Symposium. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.; for seating information, visit jhu.edu/mse. —Amy Lunday
