Johns Hopkins welcomes first members of Class of 2025

The group of 520 talented high schoolers who applied for early decision admission to the university include inventors, policy advocates, community organizers, and engineers

A group of 520 talented high school students from across the globe who applied for early admission to Johns Hopkins University were offered admission today, making them the first members of the undergraduate Class of 2025.

A record number of students made the decision that Hopkins is their first choice college, with an 11% increase in early applicants from last year. This year's Early Decision I class represents students from all demographic, socioeconomic, and geographic backgrounds as well as academic interests.

"Coming from an exceptionally competitive Early Decision pool, this year's admitted students are impressive not only for their accomplishments in and outside the classroom, but for how they pursued their development throughout high school."

"Coming from an exceptionally competitive Early Decision pool, this year's admitted students are impressive not only for their accomplishments in and outside the classroom, but for how they pursued their development throughout high school," said Dean of Undergraduate Admissions Ellen Kim. "Their teachers and counselors shared stories and comments about how these students have made an impact in their communities and highlighted their personal qualities that will make them meaningful contributors to our student body."

Among the newest class are a developer of an EEG headband prototype for individuals with epilepsy to wear in order to predict and detect seizures, a prison reform advocate who drafted an expungement bill with attorneys in their home state, an inventor who built an earthquake resistant desk with a sensor and alarm, and a community organizer who helped farmers get access to crisis relief funds and share their crops with food insecure families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"They are described as creative thinkers, passionate learners, and committed advocates for causes they care about," Kim said. "They are distinguished for their interdisciplinary aptitudes as well as their personal qualities and contributions to their social and extracurricular groups."

Admitted Early Decision I students and their families will be invited to virtual events in 2021. Students who applied Early Decision I can view admissions decisions at mydecision.jhu.edu.

The remainder of the Class of 2025 will be selected from the Early Decision II and Regular Decision applicant pool. Early Decision II and Regular Decision applications are due by 11:59 p.m. EST on January 4. Early Decision II decisions will be released Feb. 12 and regular admissions decisions will be announced in mid-March.
