Johns Hopkins' Live Near Your Work program to offer larger grants

Base incentive will increase to $5,000 beginning July 1

The financial incentives for full-time Johns Hopkins employees to purchase a home near the Homewood, East Baltimore, and Bayview campuses will increase this summer, the university announced recently.

Beginning July 1, the Live Near York Work base grant to assist with a down payment and/or closing costs will increase from $3,000 to $5,000. In some designated areas, grants will be as high as $23,000 near the Homewood campus and $36,000 near the East Baltimore campus. Maps of the new program boundaries are available online.

The Live Near Your Work program at Johns Hopkins was launched in 1997. In 2008, an agreement with The Rouse Company Foundation significantly increased the amount of assistance available. Since then, more than 350 grants have been awarded.

A bus tour of the Live Near Your Work areas is scheduled for July 12, and walking tours of the neighborhoods are also being planned.
