Incoming JHU freshmen get head start with pre-orientation adventures

New students embark on kayaking, rock climbing, hiking trips

More than 100 members of the Johns Hopkins University Class of 2017 set out late last week on a series of outdoor excursions, including whitewater and sea kayaking, rock climbing, and backpacking on the Appalachian Trail. The adventures, led by nearly 50 upperclassmen from JHU's Outdoor Pursuits and the Johns Hopkins Outdoors Club, are part of the annual pre-orientation options for incoming freshmen. The program, in its 17th year, is designed to give new students the opportunity to spend time with fellow freshmen and upperclassmen as they prepare to transition into life at Johns Hopkins.
