Johns Hopkins sends two wrestlers to NCAA championship meet

Senior Marcello, sophomore Bewak both earn top-five seeds

Senior Paul Marcello and sophomore Paul Bewak will represent Johns Hopkins at the NCAA Division III wrestling championships this weekend in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Bewak owns a 31-3 record and is seeded third at 125 pounds. He had won 32 consecutive matches, including a Centennial Conference title, before losing in the semifinal round of the NCAA East regional meet. Bewak placed seventh at the NCAA meet last season.

Marcello, the fifth seed at 141 pounds, owns a 26-8 record and recently won his fourth consecutive Centennial Conference title, the first JHU wrestler to reach that milestone. He has won 14 matches in a row, including the East Regional championship, coming into the NCAA meet. Marcello failed to win a match in three previous trips to NCAAs.

First-round matches in both double-elimination brackets are scheduled for Friday at noon, with championships set for Saturday at 6 p.m.
