University announces death of School of Engineering student

19-year-old sophomore was diagnosed with lymphoma in February

A Johns Hopkins University sophomore who was enrolled in the School of Engineering has died, the university announced Wednesday.

Rebecca Grande, who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in February, died Sunday at a hospital near her family's home in Lansdowne, Pa. She was 19.

Grande was a member of the JHU women's track and cross country teams.

"Although her time with us here at Johns Hopkins was short, she made a lasting impact on all of us who knew her, particularly in the courage, grace, and perseverance with which she faced her illness," Susan Boswell, dean of student life for the Homewood campus, wrote in an email message to faculty, staff, and students.

Funeral services will be held Friday at Toppitzer Funeral Home at Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill, Pa. The university will provide bus transportation for anyone who would like to attend. Call the Athletic Center at 410-516-7490 to reserve a seat. The bus will leave early Friday morning and return in the afternoon after the funeral.
